The Organic Farming Targets (Scotland) Bill (SP Bill 66, ISBN 0338204105) is a Private Members' Bill which seeks to establish specific 10-year targets for the conversion of agricultural land to organic production methods and would require the Scottish Executive to publish an action plan to achieve these targets. The aim is to promote sustainable development by encouraging the consumption and production of organic food in Scotland. The Committee's report states that it is broadly sympathetic to the aims of the Bill and believes that there should be targets related to increasing organic production. However, it is not convinced that a specific target of 20% or indeed any other figure, is the best way to achieve such an increase. Therefore, the Committee has chosen to make no recommendation to Parliament on the Bill.
