International Criminal Courts Act, 2001
- Publisher:
- TSO (The Stationery Office)
The Act ratifies the agreement made in 1998 in Rome to establish an international criminal court to try those accused of the most serious crimes known to humanity. The court has jurisdiction over war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide - but only in the circumstances where the domestic court of the state was unable or unwilling to investigate and prosecute.
The legislation enables the Government to provide full assistance to the court and allow law enforcement authorities to identify, arrest and transfer war crime suspects to The Hague.
