The Hutton Report contains the findings of one of the most eagerly awaited public inquires Since Tony Blair came to power. The report looks into the death of Dr David Kelly, who was Mr Gilligan's source for the story broadcast by the BBC Today programme's Andrew Gilligan about claims the government "sexed up" its 2002 dossier about Iraqi weapons.
Lord Hutton was asked to inquire into the circumstances surrounding Dr Kelly's death, and has spent more than four months writing up his conclusions.
The key findings from the report suggest that:
-
Dr David Kelly took his own life and no third party was involved in his death
-
His death was hastened by a concoction of pills
It was felt that Intelligence relating to whether Iraq's weapons of mass destruction justified going to war fell outside the scope of his inquiry.
