The Act contains a number of measures to reform the framework of access to, and ownership of, Scottish land. These include: the duty of local authorities to uphold the right for people to have responsible access to land for recreational purposes, with a reciprocal obligation on landowners to act responsibly; the right of rural communities to buy land with which they have registered an interest when the land is offered for sale; and the right of crofting communities to buy land held under crofting tenure and other land under certain circumstances.
