The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) is the highest award given to UK volunteer groups, being equivalent to the MBE.

The prestigious award recognises outstanding work done by volunteer groups in their communities, including:

  • developing individuals through athletics in Ayrshire and Arran;

  • supporting and improving the emotional wellbeing of older people in hospital in Guernsey;

  • providing free complementary therapies for cancer in Herefordshire;

  • looking after Clevedon's Heritage Marine Lake on behalf of the community in Somerset;

  • providing weekly activities for girls and young women in Southwark, building their confidence and life skills; and

  • a credit union helping to combat loanshark issues and financial exclusion in County Durham .
