These tables have been prepared by the Government Actuary's Department to provide an aid for those assessing the lump sum appropriate as compensation for a continuing future pecuniary loss, consequential expense, or cost of care, in personal injury and fatal accident cases.

They are designed to assist the courts to arrive at suitable sums for damages in a range of possible situations in personal injury and fatal accident cases. They are also known colloquially as the 'Ogden Tables', after Sir Michael Ogden, QC - the original working party chairman.

The Seventh Edition utilises the new methodology, introduced in the Sixth Edition and based on the results of research, for assessing appropriate deductions to be made to the working life multiplier for dealing with contingencies other than mortality, including the assessment of a claimant's residual earning capacity post-accident. It also provides guidance for dealing with variable future losses or expenses.

Please note: this publication supersedes 'Actuarial Tables with Explanatory Notes for use in Personal Injury and Fatal Accident Cases: Sixth Edition (2007)' (listed below).
