This Act is part of the ongoing process of welfare reform and modernisation of the benefit system. The Act consists of three parts: Part 1 - Social security; Part 2 - Child maintenance; Part 3 - Miscellaneous and supplementary. Social security measures cover: abolition of income support; supporting parents with younger children into employment -'Progression to work'; work-related activity for claimants of employment and support allowance; contribution-based jobseeker's allowance and contributory employment and support allowance; community care grants; benefit fraud and sanctions. Part 2 includes amendments to the current statutory provisions relating to information offences. Part 3 contains sections dealing with consequential amendments, repeals and revocations of other legislation, financial provisions, and commencement of provisions of the Act.
