Current Restructuring of the Police Forces in Wales
HC 1418, Fith Report of Session 2005-06
- House of Commons Welsh Affairs Committee
- TSO (The Stationery Office)
Following on from the Committee's previous report (HCP 751, session 2005-06; ISBN 0215027566) published in February 2006, this follow-up inquiry focuses on concerns relating to the timetable for the creation of an all Wales police force, and the financial arrangements underlying the creation.
The Committee concludes that an all Wales police force is no longer a credible option, with serious concerns over its financial viability, and that it would be wholly unacceptable for the four Welsh forces to suffer financially as a result of that wasted expenditure spent in working towards a unified force.
It recommends that the Home Office ensures that the resources expended on this failed policy in no way affects their financial planning for the current financial year.
