The Prison Service Pay Review Body 2012 report on Northern Ireland has three key recommendations regarding pay: a consolidated increase of £250 for night custody officers, operational support grades and healthcare assistants; a consolidated increase of £0.12 per hour for prisoner custody officers and senior prisoner custody officers and the allowance payable to those staff who are required to work in accommadtion housing prisoners engaged in a dirty protest to be £8.00 per day for periods of less than 4 hours and £16.00 per day for periods of 4 hours or more. These recommendations are made against the background of exceptional economic circumstances, and follow the Minister's recommendation again that consideration be given to those earning £21,000 or less, which follows the Executive's announcement of a pay freeze for those earning above that threshold.
