Building Regulations Approved Document B – Volume 2
Fire Safety: Buildings other than Dwellinghouses
- Author:
- The Stationery Office (TSO)
This Approved Document provides guidance to support compliance with fire safety standards set out as part of the Building Regulations. Revisions to Building Regulations Part B Fire Safety, came into force 06 April 2007 and affect future building work, such as the erection, extension or material alteration of a building, and how fire safety is designed into a building. For non-domestic buildings, the key changes include the introduction of a maximum unsprinklered compartment size for single storey warehouses, new guidance on residential care homes and a new requirement to ensure occupiers are made aware of their building's fire protection measures.
Part B has been split into Volume 1: Dwellinghouses and Volume 2: Buildings other than Dwellinghouses to make the guidance more accessible and easier to use. Anyone intending to carry out building work in England and Wales is required by law to obtain building control approval to ensure the Regulations are complied with.
