This study looks at how the Children Act has improved the many aspects of care proceedings, not least that guardians ad litem form an important link between the work of the courts and experts in child health/development and family dynamics. This research study focuses in why and to what extent experts are used; the disciplines commonly instructed and the selection criteria applied. It looks at the duration of cases and the approach of the courts together with the approaches of guardians and experts working in this area.
