The primary functions of a sterile services department (SSD) of a hospital include the disassembly and disinfection of instruments used in surgical or medical procedures carried out in operating theatres and other clinical areas; and the preparation and packaging of sterile instrument packs and trays for clinical use, including device functionality and safety checks.
