'The World Factbook 2005' is prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency for the use of US government officials. It contains comparable reference information and profiles of more than 250 countries and geographic areas, available as of 1 January 2005. Each entry profiles a country or region's geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, military and transnational issues.
Data are given on infant mortality, political parties and leaders, life expectancy, literacy, elections, religion, migration. It includes appendices on the United Nations System and international organisations and groups.
This publication also contains appendices which include a list of international organisations and a cross-reference list of geographic names, and is supplied with three colour maps giving political and physical geographical information, as well as the standard time zones of the world.
