The British Approved Names (BAN) is the official dictionary of names for UK medicinal substances. Produced by the British Pharmacopoeia Secretariat of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the BAN makes an important contribution to public health by ensuring that names selected are unique. The BAN is an essential reference for all individuals and organisations working within pharmaceutical research, manufacture and regulatory affairs.
The British Approved Names (BAN) 2012 consolidates the drug names included in BAN 2007, with the 57 names published in its four supplements. It also incorporates a further 70 recommended International Nonproprietary Names which have been adopted as British Approved Names.
BAN 2012 is implemented on 1 January 2012.
As an alternative to the printed edition of BAN 2012, users of the British Pharmacopoeia (BP) 2012 can purchase a subscription to access the content online. More information on accessing BAN online can be found at www.pharmacopoeia.co.uk.
