Trade with Brazil and Mercosur: seventh

The Committee decided to examine the opportunities for trade and investment between the UK and Brazil as part of a wider programme of inquiries into trade with the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China). As the inquiry progresses the scope broadened to include Mercosur, the South American trade block of which Brazil is the dominant member. The inquiry focused on two main areas: the difficulties faced and the opportunities offered to UK businesses wishing to trade of forge investment links; and the UK Government's role in assisting businesses, especially as the new strategy of UK Trade and Investment is to focus on emerging markets. In particular it looked at opportunities in aerospace, IT, life science, oil and gas, and financial services.
