The Sub-committee on Lords' Interests investigated a complaint by Stephen Pound MP that Lord Ashcroft had failed to register in the Register of Lords' Interests a company called Mayfair Limited, a company incorporated in Belize. Also, he had not delared his interest when tabling questions for written answer about Belize. The Committee assessed the complaint against the existing code of conduct, and rejects both parts of the complaint. The company need not have been registered as Lord Ashcroft has never received remuneration from it. And under the current code of conduct there is no requirement to declare interests when tabling questions. The Committee points out that the new code of conduct, which will operate from the start of the new Parliament, will require registration of all directorships, paid and unpaid; and it will also require declarations of interest when tabling questions and motions.
