This report reviews the work of the Committee during 2004, in which time it worked on 14 inquiries and completed eight, representing a higher work rate than in previous years. Topics dealt with include: 'hate crime'; social housing provision; the role of the Parades Commission; and the introduction of the Aggregates Levy. The year saw a strong effort by the UK and Irish Governments, and others, to facilitate the resumption of devolved government in Northern Ireland. Given the challenge of its continued suspension, the Committee has sought to broaden the scope of its work to meet this challenge.
