The figures are derived from the Annual Schools Census. Some of the key facts are: the proportion of all exclusions in each type of school has changed very little over four years - 83% are from secondary schools, 13% from primary schools and 4% from special schools; the proportion of children aged 14 excluded from school is the highest; exclusion was least common in the primary age range and the first year of secondary school; 83% of all permanent exclusions were boys.
