Compulsory basic training (CBT) must be completed
before a learner moped or motorcycle rider is allowed to ride unaccompanied on
the road. CBT was introduced in 1990 to help reduce the very high accident rate
among inexperienced cyclists.
The practical motorcycle test is made up of
different elements, an eyesight test, vehicle safety questions, a test of
driving ability, a test of specific manoeuvres and a question about riding with
a passenger.
As part of DSA’s ongoing and monitoring process of all tests, DSA has announced some minor changes to the practical motorcycle test from 16 May 2011. Details of all of the changes can be found at www.direct.gov.uk/motorcycle.
