Electrical Safety - Dwellings
- The Stationery Office (TSO)
- TSO (The Stationery Office)
The Building Regulations are concerned with protecting the health and safety of those in and around buildings, but also address energy conservation and access to and use of buildings. Anyone intending to carry out building work in England and Wales is required by law to obtain building control approval to ensure the Regulations are complied with.
'Building Regulations Approved Document P: Electrical Safety - Dwellings' has been amended to include specific guidance on inspection, testing and information provision. It applies to electrical installations in or attached to buildings or parts of buildings comprising:
dwelling houses and flats;
dwellings and business premises that have a common supply - for example shops and public houses with a flat above;
common access areas in blocks of flats such as corridors and staircases;
and shared amenities of blocks of flats such as laundries and gymnasiums.
