Well-maintained Highways
Code of Practice for Maintenance Management
- Author:
- Roads Liaison Group
Well-maintained Highways is the second of three new Codes of Practice from the Department for Transport, designed to help local authorities establish and maintain a positive and lasting road maintenance policy.
This new Code updates the 2001 edition to take account of significant changes in legislation, policy and practice.
The Code follows the principle that services should be designed to meet the needs of users and the community, rather than the convenience of service providers. It encourages co-ordination and consistency in the delivery of local highway maintenance services, and facilitates the sharing of developing best practice through a framework of guidance and standards.
Divided into five parts, this Code covers:
-
An introduction to the Code, its scope and purpose
-
Policy and legal framework in the context of best practice and performance improvement
-
Principles for developing strategy and network hierarchy, inspection standards and monitoring of all service aspects
-
Appendices and glossary
